In 2017 the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC) commissioned a meta-evaluation on the effectiveness of their gender engagements to Femconsult and consortium partner OQ Consulting. The study found that 73% of the assessed gender-specific projects contributed to a sustainable improvement in gender equality, such as more equal access to resources and services and more equal participation in decision-making. Of the thematic projects in which gender was integrated as a transversal theme, 31% contributed to improved gender equality. Addressing gender in these thematic projects contributed to better achieving the projects’ overall goals.

The effectiveness of gender equality in SDC projects improved over the 10 year review period (2007-2016), suggesting that the improved institutional capacity for promoting gender equality within SDC and its partners was bearing fruits.
