- 8 March 2018
The 8th of March is the annual celebration of International Women’s Day, commemorating and bringing awareness to the women´s rights movement. The history of this celebration dates back to the suffragettes in 1911, where women protested for the right to vote. This year’s United Nations’ theme is “Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives ”. The rights and activism of rural women will also be the focus of this year’s 62nd session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, discussing “Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls ”. Both approaches focus on a big part of the population left behind in measures of development.
